Australia work for women

So what is it like in Australia for work? Most friends here in NZ just frown and say -"well you can always study while your Husband works there".
I have been a senior nurse and now hold a degree in computing and am completing a masters in information management.

Any hints, comments, suggestions?
Potential move to Australia in September.
