Hey Guys,

Just a thought that struck me the other day, particularly after reading some news articles. But why in Australia are people with any kind of disability not treated like normal members of society.

Like the little hearing impaired boy who's not allowed to attend mainstram school - he's not stupid! He just can't hear! With a support teacher there's no reason what so ever why he can't learn normally.

Also I've noticed you rarely see any disabled people around, I saw a guy in wheel chair the other day and it seem odd as you never see any people. And lets face it it's not as if this place is friendly for those who have mobility problems.

Just a thought.

i dnt think that they r treated that way ..

i haveno idea about wat u r taking about ..but here in Australia we have schools for disables..

School's for the disabled are not the point. What about those with minor disabilities or impairments. They don't need to be in special schools, they need to be in main stream school with support teachers. I've worked with loads of special needs kids and most do really well and excel in mainstream school. But here in Australia the ministry seem to think anyone with some sort of problem is retarded and dumps them in a special school for those with severe learning difficulties, this is not how it should be.

Nurato, no offense but I don't think you're very worldly at all, seems you have limited experience on many fronts. Maybe you need to open your eyes and take a real look around you. 'Get out the box dude'.

Its the same in many places that are not that developed into a certain way of thinking (I am NOT suggesting Australia is). Anybody with a disability is "not wanted/desirable". Africa, China etc, all are the same.

It is indeed very sad. I have seen cabbies refuse to stop for wheel chair passengers. It is too much hassle for the cabbies to wait until the poor soul gets into the cab and his/her escorts put the wheelchair into the boot I guess. Also it is a waste of time for the cabbies I guess.

Can you imagine a cabbie wasting somethig like 5 minutes once in his lifetime? how would he make that time back?

It is a shame. I wish I had a camera with me everytime I see a wheelchair bound person trying to flag a cab which just wont stop.

Shame.

In my university, there is a student among us who can not hear nor talk.
He was a group member for an group assignment with a friend of mine. She said he is very intellectual. When ever they were in meetings they did all the conversation in writing.
I was quite suprised to learn about him. Imagine how hard everything is for him that we simply do it every second. how Blessed we are!

So I think, if the disabled person is really outstanding, they do get in. But I know we havnt seen much of that anywhere...

There is this Hindi Movie "BLACK" it is story about a Girl who can not see, hear or talk. How she struggles and fulfil her dreams of graduating.. which takes her 20 years..

The language used is mostly English but if you can find it with english subtitles; you will really enjoy the film.

it seems u r the one who must get out the box ..in Kedron they have ALTHEQA school for special needs kids ..let me remaind u that Australia got more than 5 medal in sydney for disables ..u have to go and see that there r many Institute like al theka disable club Institute ...here is the number (06-5389999) u can call them if u want they know more than me and u cuz we r in the box dude

You missed my point totally, I was talking about kids who aren't disabled or impaired enough to go to special schools, we know there's lots of them and they do a good job and I never disputed that.

My point was what about those who should be IN MAIN STREAM SCHOOL, but there's no support network there for them! i.e. support teachers who spend one on one time to make sure they get a little more help. Like that little boy Zachary, he's hearing impaired, but this doesn't mean he needs to be in a special school, in fact that would actually hold him back as the other children would be below him intellectually and he wouldn't achieve as much.

You wouldn't dump a kid with a broken arm in special school would you? So why a child who can't hear properly? They learn to lip read and sign and just need a little extra attention that's all.

Main stream schools only need one or two qualified support teachers to help these children out, but the ministry seems not to want to help those children.

ok man but i think u dnt have any idea about wat u r talking about u should ask and talk with people ..i told u to call the school they will tell u wat u need ..

I know exactly what I'm talking about! I used to work in a school supporting deaf kids!!!! I also used to desgin and make interactive toys for severly mentally impaired children, so don't go there.

If Kedron is so great, then how come there was a little blind boy in the paper yesterday who no-one is willing to take into their school?

I don't know what you're having such a hard time understanding. It's really very simple, there are special schools for children, we knows this, the problem is when you have a child who's difficulties are not severe enough to warrant being in a speicla school and they will cope and do well in a normal school, but they need a support teacher to give them a bit of extra help, these children are certainly not catered for, that is what I'm telling you, that not every child with learning / physical disabilities needs to be dumped in a special school.

Nurato, yes this is happening, yes it is sad, and it's been covered in all the papers recently - 7 days have been following the plight of Zachary for weeks now and are probably going to be forced to leave the country as they can't educate their son here as there's no facilities for him, he's not stupid, he's not got a problem with his brain, he just can't hear properly, that certainly doesn't mean he needs to be in a special school, he needs to be accepted into a 'normal' school with a support teacher who can teach him to sign and lip read - simple, easy, what the heck is the problem!

I really can't make it any simpler than that, so if you still don't get it, then I don't know what else to say as you just don't understand.

I'm not going to comment on this anymore as I feel like I've been banging my head against a brick wall, which I'm sure is exactly how many parents feel over this subject.

let me tell u somthing ..in ALTHEQA school kids who cant read hear or talk.can join this school not because they r stuiped or somthing but coz they need support tools and equipment .it normal school but insted of puting a support teacher in each school for these kids they mad this school so thay put them there .

thanx agin man and im not making it harder or difficult ..but u want every school to but in each class a support teacher for each kid ..
i think this is very hard ..
and am sorry if i make u bang ur head into a wall but i wanted to discuss this matter with u and this is not wrong every one has point of view and any one can say his point .

if u make a alist of what can we do for those kid i think this will help more ..talking about somthing and feeling sorry for them will not help these kids .
but if u say we but a support teacher for each kid ..i think this is difficult. making a school for them is butter this will save time and will help the kid coz when he study with normal people it will be harder but if he study with kids in have the same problem he will not feel that he is different from them .
