Internship in the Grand Hyatt Brisbane- asking for informati

Hello everybody. I am From Macau, China and I will be having my internship as a Front Office staff in the Grand Hyatt Brisbane for 6 month starting from March 2006 :?: . I would like to have some information about the hotel and the life in Brisbane. Is GH a good hotel and what is the working environment? Moreover, is it expensive to live and travel in Brisbane(Australia)? I will be provided the accomodation and meals, also there will be EUA800 allowance for me per month. I would like to know in this situation, how much money should I prepare in order to live and travel?

What I can share with you is a bit superficial (do not know much of the working environment though). The Grand Hyatt Brisbane is one of the beautiful hotels in Brisbane. The Grand Hyatt is a city conference or convention hotel, has more than 600 rooms and mixed used facilities (hotel rooms and serviced apartments). Therefore, this is indeed a good training ground because you get to cover more market segments (convention, FITs, LSGs, travel, etc). I am not sure what software they use but Fidelio and Delphi is commonly used here in Brisbane hotels. Has loads of restaurants, so your cashiering skills will definitely be well trained. Living in Brisbane is a bit expensive in comparison to China. However, since you are provided with accommodation and meals during your shift, I guess your allowance is just right. Other hotels provide free transportation (to & fro) your provided accommodation, so you may would like to check this out with HR. Tranpo here is expensive esp if you will take a cab going and coming from work.

Thx a lot. The hotel will provide the transportation as well. but I would like to have more information about the living style there. And is it difficult for a chinese girl to work in Brisbane. How much will be needed per month? Although I am living in China, but my city is different from the other city in China. It is a special administrative region, next to Hong Kong. And it is the only city in China, which can operate casinos and we are relying in the gaming industry.

U got me curious..what's the name of the city you live in? I think brisbane is a single people's city, u'll find more singles than couples, and definitely, many far-eastern..so relax, as long as u have ur accomodation& transportation taken care of, ur really on the safe side. Grand Hyatt is an int'l hotel, u'll find it similar to most 5star hotels around the world. G'luck

Boni, you’ll hopefully enjoy your time here, One thing worth mentioning, because of your nationality when going out on your own there will be people that make assumptions about your profession. Although many Chinese are not P4P in Brisbane there is that stigma that they are. Don’t let this sway your plans on coming but I did want to be up front with you, it’d be a rude shock if no one told you.

BTW if you are from Macao, how is it? I’ve always wanted to go there.

Well, I am also from China. I have been here for almost 2 years already.
Grand hyatt is pretty nice hotel in brisbane. I have been there a few times. and I do always have some clients to stay in that hotel.
Brisbane is okay for me right now. you have night life, you also can travel around in local countries when you are in holiday...

Brisbane is pretty cosmopolitan. You will definitely meet all types of people and all sorts of characters. Making friends esp when you are working should be pretty easy. People love to dress up and Brisbane definitely has a lively nightlife (ladies night, overflowing free champagne, etc). Loads of restaurants to choose and malls and more malls to go and visit. Shopping seems to be a fav past time but what is great is the chance for you to go the beach and just relax (no fee on public beaches). Have a long drive with your friends and visit other Australia i.e, Hatta, etc. How much money you have to bring actually depends on how would you like to live your life. If you like to go out almost every night, well I must say that you do have to bring loads of money coz cost of living in Brisbane is not cheap! If you love cooking, well that will save you lots of money instead of eating out.

jacky: I think you should come and visit Macau if you are interested. There are different events and festivals during the whole year expecially in October and November. There is fire work competition in October every year, and we just finished the East Asian Game last week. Recently, there is a food festivals from 11Nov to 27Nov. and the 52th Macau Grand Prix will be held from next Friday to Sunday.
Even you dont like gambling, you can have fun in Macau since there are many heritage here and we just joined the world heritage few months ago. It is not expensive to travel around Macau, you can spend a little amount to enjoy many delicious cuisine here.

Macdonald in brisbane is not expensive, i think.
For example a spicy chicken burger package is AUD15 (USD4).

About money, of course as much as better .
You have have better life if you have more money here.
