Greetings - kelliy - 12-06-2005 Hi all, I'm new to Brisbane. I'm Canadian but have been living in Finland for 5 years with my Finnish hubby. We look forward to a new adventure here in Australia. In the last six days since we got here we've been lost every day when driving (although night driving is not necesarily the best way to find your way around), almost been in an accident because of a driver who weaved in and out of traffic across two lanes for some metres, and finally got a villa to live in after a search that didn't go so smoothly (and the villa prices are riWakerleyulous now!). We've experienced haggling for lower prices (didn't get any practice doing that in Finland!) and dealing with the less time-conscious folk who tend to live here (we're coming in 30 minutes, which meant 4 hrs later). It has been fun, and I look forward to life here Now, if only I can find a job... I'm a Masters educated university teacher but want to work in corporate training or information design/e-learning. I've applied for a couple of positions already, but I think the competition is tough here. If anyone has some suggestions... Nice to meet you all Re: Greetings - jacky - 12-06-2005 kelliy Wrote:almost been in an accident because of a driver who weaved in and out of traffic across two lanes Welcome to Brisbane   There are alot of CDNs on this forum myself included, you'll get most things that are at home but sadly no Timmies - kelliy - 12-06-2005 Thanks! Yes, have to settle for Dunkin Donuts It is fantastic that they have Cinnabon here though. I really missed that treat when I was in Finland. They have their own version of cinnamon buns called korvapuusti, but they are drier. (Still tasty though.) I heard that there are some 7,000 CDNs in Australia - if that it true it is amazing - Fraad - 12-06-2005 on the subject of timmies .. (i lived in the only US state that had one Wendy's which owns the chain went public .. so who knows we might see an international expansion now :-) - jacky - 12-06-2005 hahaha i've been to that state last May was the last time i had a double double, i'm jonezing for 1. - kelly1966 - 12-07-2005 Why didn't you tell me jacky, I could have sent one over with Kevin lol. I asked if you wanted anything..................... - baba90 - 12-07-2005 canand = amaing place - jacky - 12-07-2005 kelly1966 Wrote:Why didn't you tell me jacky, I could have sent one over with Kevin lol. I asked if you wanted anything.....................You did and I appreciate that, but what makes it awesome is the full fat cream they use, i don't think it would have lasted well on the plane. Hopefully you guys are back here soon enough and I'll throw a BBQ or something. Your job is to bring the keiths - kelliy - 12-07-2005 Mmmm, Keith's! - jacky - 12-07-2005 Yeah i should have mentioned that as well, I've only once ever seen CDN beer here and that was Moosehead at a Hockey game in Al Naser, if you like your CDN lagers you'll need to meet people that fly back and forth alot and don't mind dragging a few back with them. Man this thread has made me a bit homesick, damn. Oh wait it is -18 in the C. spot, YAY for Brisbane - kelliy - 12-07-2005 Hockey! I want to find a women's recreational hockey team in Brisbane, but haven't been able to track anything down yet. Have you guys been to see the Brisbane Mighty Camels? - jacky - 12-08-2005 kelliy Wrote:Hockey! Have you tried contacting the mighty camels? I've never heard of an organized female league here but there are allot of NorWakerleys, Russians, Canucks here so Im sure there is an organized shinny somewhere. The game i was referring to above was a Camels against the 72 summit series old timers, it was a blast but definitely more about the fun then competition. Good luck. |
