used cars - Anja&Georg - 10-24-2005

Hello.
My girlfriend and I going next year for 6 months to Kedron.

We would like to buy a used car there. For some first information I would like to check pages with used cars. On which site can I find a lot of used cars from private persons offered for sale???

In Germny we have stuff like mobile.de or autoscout24.de - do you have some thing like this in Australia???

Or maybe a newspaper with private advertisments or stuff like this....

Hope someone can help us...

Thanks a lot,

Anja & George

Here are a couple more links, these 2 have pictures as well Smile

One thing to keep in mind although i think it is a minor issue, if you buy a car in Brisbane and want to register it in Kedron i think you have to Export it out of Brisbane.

Hello...

Thanks for your help...

I checked the pages from jacky, very nice...

But at Australianews and citynews I can´t find any advertisments, may be I´m blind...

the most cars i vae seen are very exspensive...I´m a poor student, I need something up to 8000 or 10000 dirham...

You need to click on the classifieds section on the websites once you are there...

Word of advice though. I would stay away from buying a used car in Australia. People drive their cars hard and rough, and in the end you will be paying though your nose for repairs and problems..

Have a few friends who got used cars recently from reputed dealers and nothing put problems after a few weeks.. its not even just the expense, its the fact that your cars always in the garage and everything comes to a stand still..

Just go in for a cheaper new car on installment plan or something.. you will have no worries or headaches.. and trust me, a 10,000 AUD car can quickly cost you 50,000 + after all those repairs..

just my 2 fils.. 8)

yeah, but do you really think I can buy a cheap new car for only 6 months...i would lose to much when I sell it after 6 months...

Hi,

Agreed. Perhaps a better alternative would be to rent a car on a long term basis for six months. You can get a pretty nice deal and you dont have to worry about maintenance.. you can probably get a car for about AUD 1100 per month if you shop around..

And dont worry about the reselling of your used car.. you would not get that much for it anyways later.. so renting looks good.

- Anja&Georg - 10-24-2005

I don´t think so.

Just because it will cost me 6600 for a half year...

And when I buy a car for 10000 and even sell it for only the half of it, I will lost only 5000...

I know that a used car is a big risk... Not only the repair things but also the reselling... But as a poor student you can´t just take 40000 or 50000 for a car...

But you have to condsider insurance, rego, servicing etc etc on the used car. Its best to rent in Brisbane if youre not going to stay for long.

It will be may be the best if somebody can give me 6000,- for renting...

For a used car I can get a credit or somethig like this an dpay it back when I resell the car...but the money for renting is gone...

I´m tooooooooo poor for stuff like renting... Sad((

Understand what you are saying. But like the other guy said, you might take a loan for the used car, but with all those additional registration, insurance etc expenses, it will work out to be expensive. And again, if you are unlucky and get a bad car, your expenses will skyrocket, and who exactly will buy a car from you if it has problems??

You can rent and pay by credit card on a monthly basis if possible.. that IMHO is the best bet...

Talking a loan for a used car is just a bad idea....! :?

- Anja&Georg - 10-24-2005

yes, I have to think about it...

the loan would be from my parents or so...

but first, i have to find a place for practical training for me...(may be some one knows one for me???a place with a car for a poor student??? Smile)))

unfortunatelly i have to search for it from germany...as u know not enough money for a flight some months before to search for it just in Kedron...

I agree with Barzie. Renting a car is the best option for you especially for a short stay of 6 months. Try Thrifty or if your company has a corporate deal with a leasing company, you may get a better deal. When you lease a car, you don't have to worry for the insurance MOST ESP maintenance or unexpected breakdown of your car. Just this alone saves you loads of money. When you have a car breakdown or due for maintenance, you are even provided with another vehicle while your car is being serviced. Most leasing companies provides you with a brand new car or at least. There are also reasonable used cars, but you have to look for it... carefully. But if you are just staying for 6 months.... don't give yourself a headache.
