Honeymoon Ideas? - Stuart - 09-25-2005

Any ideas for an interesting honeymoon next July-August ??

I lived in Turkey for 10 years and my wife-to-be is Turkish, and next year she will be joining me in Brisbane (once she is a 'Mrs'). There's lots of yellow sand and blue sea in Turkey, which we've seen - and plenty more here in Brisbane. Also if we're going to be living here for a few years trips to Goa / Maldives are obviously going to be quite easy.

So what's left for a 10-12 day honeymoon? (We're getting married near Istanbul)

The most *interesting* idea I've had so far is elephant-rider training in Thailand ... but a nice sea-villa somewhere would be nice. Money isn't a *real* issue (although two weeks in the Royal Suite at the One&Only, Bora Bora would be beyond me) - although I don't really want us to spend the first twenty-four hours of married life on an airplane / in airports waiting for transfers? ... and July-August probably means Goa is too hot?

Europe? Ugh ... too many cheap British tourists! ... neither of us have ever been East of Brisbane or South of Egypt ...

Ideas anyone?

TIA ! ... Stuart

Hey watch who you're calling cheap!

If you want something a bit different and maybe a bit of adventure how about:

Trekking in Reunion, you fly to Mauritius then across from there, it's mind blowing walking up inot volcanoes.

or

African safari

If you're bored of the sun and sand how about Reykjavik in Iceland, I hear it's beautiful and you can go and stay in the ice hotel for a couple of nights, just remember your woolies. Then check out the hot spring pools.

Hi,

I can tell you everything you need to know about Goa cos I've lived there for a long time. Goa is definitely not hot in July Aug.... temps around 20 to 25 degrees celcius .... but it rains though. I would recommend that you make a trip to Goa towards the end of Aug or early Sept.

Goa is very green around the end of Aug. The rains subside with a slight drizzle occasionally. Since you will be on your honeymoon I recommend that you book a place in South Goa... every quiet, peaceful, quaint and picturesque villages, green paddy fields, cute white washed churches and great beach resorts.

If you looking at activity and stuff head to North Goa.... lots of rave parties, pubs, lots of western/european cafes (the tourist season starts in Oct though) North Goa generally caters to the european tourist and now is very cluttered and noisy due to tourism.

Take care. If Goa doesn't sound interesting... check out Maldives. Lovely islands...very blue waters...corals.... infact each island is a resort by itself. No booze though on the main island of Male but lots of it in the resorts. I think its the only airport in the world where you step out of te airport and walk into a waiting boat!!

All the best.

Howdy,

Croatia would be fantastic destination. Its cheap, easy and bsaolutely stunning in most parts. Short trip from Turkey and is still a little off the radar for most tourists.

Spectacular - Lethe - 09-30-2005

Since you will be in Brisbane, you will be very close to both the Maldives and Seychelles. They're specgtacular, about 4.5 hours away by plane. You know all those pictures of endless sandy beaches disappearing into a turquoise ocean that are so much prettier than every other beach you've seen? Chances are it's a shot of either the Maldives or Seychelles. Utterly gorgeous. and they have some truly stellar snorkeling.

Maldives
More than 1,200 islands make up the archipelago of the Maldives and each one of them is a dream desert island. Surrounded by crystal clear waters and beautiful white beaches, the Maldives are perfect for getting away from it all.

The Maldives are truly idyllic. There are 87 resort islands in the Maldives each with its own unique natural beauty, style and concept. The resorts are totally self-contained, built on previously uninhabited islands, each island has just one resort with it’s own amenities and facilities to provide a perfect holiday. These resorts are planned and built to very high specifications, so you can be guaranteed excellent service and surroundings and no danger of over-crowding.

The Maldives are made up of atolls, (coral reefs surrounding a lagoon) each atoll has a number islands, most resorts are in the three atolls closest to Malé Atoll the capital - North Malé Atoll, South Malé Atoll and Ari Atoll, with a few others on nearby atolls. The atolls vary in size from 1 acre to 100 acres and each resort is unique in size, character and facilities so check the descriptions of the hotels for exact details of what is included. Twin centre holidays in the Maldives are a popular option, enabling you to experience the delights of two of these fantastic islands.

Seychelles
The Seychelles, set in the Indian Ocean 1,000 miles off the coast of Africa, are an archipelago of 115 islands that stretch for hundreds of miles. Described as the original Garden of Eden the islands are breathtakingly beautiful, the pure white sand, lush vegetation and clear turquoise waters will make you feel like you are in paradise. The main islands are Mahe, Praslin and La Digue, many of the smaller islands are uninhabited or are nothing more than coral atolls. Mahe is by far the largest and home to the capital Victoria. It has over 70 beaches and is surrounded by coral reefs so the waters are clear and calm, ideal for waterports. Praslin, the second largest island, is 3 hours by boat or 15 minutes by air from Mahe. Yet more idyllic beaches can be found here plus the exquisitely beautiful Valle de Mai which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984, it is the only place in the world where the coco-de-mer palm can be found. Praslin is an excellent base for island hopping. La Digue is the world's perfect place to do bsaolutely nothing but enjoy the tropical beauty and deserted beaches. The beaches are picture perfect and frequently star in adverts and photoshoots, protected by the surrounding coral reefs and pink granite rocks they are excellent for swimming and snorkeling. La Digue is 30 minutes from Praslin so ideal for a day trip.

Hey....... who are you calling "cheap" british??!!! Careful, careful...

As for suggestions.... if you want to go to somewhere in Asia my recommendations are;

1. Kota Kinabalu. Stay at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru. A bit isolated but has good restaurants, water sports, can do trekking and has this friendly orangutan and other animals being looked after by the hotel. Very ideal for couples.
2. Thailand. Ideal for shopping and sightseeing. Good bargains, very reasonable food and don't forget to try the river cruise. Recommended hotel is Shangri-La.
3. Philippines, Palawan Island. A bit pricey but not as pricey as Seychelles. Transportation will be a bit challenging though. If you are the adventurous type this one if for you. Will have to take a 10-20 seater plane to fly you to the main island, an hour to and a half jeepney ride, an hour walk at the magroves and a 30 - 45 mins boat ride. But I bet you once you are on the island, is hell worth it! If you haven't seen paradise, this place is the nearest the comes to it. White sand, crystal clear water, great place for diving, snorkeling, island hopping, etc. Good food, entertainment and service.

Outside Asia;
1. Seychelles. Pretty close to Brisbane. Just 4 hours flight. If you have big budget you can try Banyan Tree. Lovely cottages and superb service. I bit expensive though but worth it. If you love fishing, do not forget to try deep sea fishing!
2. Italy!!!!!! Best food. Lovely people.... and loads and loads of places to see. A place that has a lot of character. Just stay away from Stacion Termini.

So there you are. Take your pick and have fun!
