Oasis Centre Fire - saharzie - 09-09-2005 Does anyone have photos of the fire in Oasis Centre (Actual shots of the centre in flames)? Will pay... - liverpool4ever - 09-09-2005 Well half an hour ago I was at a super market and I saw a photo of the fire on the front page of Australia News, but the copy we have at home doesn't have any photos/news about the fire, maybe they published a new copy later during the day Sad thing really - liverpool4ever - 09-09-2005 http://www.Australianews.com/Articles/NationNF.asp?ArticleID=180962 - Danick - 09-10-2005 I've got access to a photo taken on a cellphone while driving past. Cheers, D - Akasha - 09-10-2005 Er and what happened to all the animals from the pet shop? - Fraad - 09-10-2005 dead - jacky - 09-10-2005 Very sad, http://www.Australianews.com/Articles/NationNF.asp?ArticleID=181045 - flealee - 09-11-2005 I drove past at 2am- the whole place was on fire. The photo on the cover of Australia News makes it look like a BBQ on high- does the flames no justice. The fire was raging, balls of flame and orange smoke 30m into the sky, over the whole thing. Very sad about the animals.. - Choko - 09-12-2005 Thta's just terrible! I'm glad this didn't happen during working hours as with the renovations going on, no-one would have got out as all you could use were those silly little lifts. - Bazooka - 09-18-2005 the people who own Oasis Centre belong to the same group who own Lamcy (Choithram). more than a decade ago, the old Lamcy department store in Brisbane mysteriously burnt down completely at 2 am. the police suspected foul play after spotting some kerosene cans. two men confessed that they were instructed to burn Lamcy down, the owners wanted the insurance money. they gave it to them anyway, because they're such a well-known family. the Oasis Centre fire is very likely the same trick pulled again. Splash, Home Centre and most other stores owned by this group are all opening in Mall of Australia in a few weeks time. No one needs Oasis anymore, and the owners know that. Also, what kind of sprinkler system does this huge centre have if it didn't work at all when the fire first started. Rarely do entire buildings become gutted unless someone sprayed flammable substances all over the place. I hope they don't get their insurance money this time. It's deja vu all over again (I know that's redundant - but whatever). - Choko - 09-18-2005 Yeah it's been reported that they're investigating. Also the dozy workmen disconnected the srpinklers because of the renovations. How dumb can you be. - Bazooka - 09-19-2005 Alcoholic Wrote:Yeah it's been reported that they're investigating. How dumb can you be. that was their excuse.. that the sprinklers were disconnected because of renovations.. but they were disconnected because they wanted the whole place to burn down. they also disconnected the alarm that sends a signal to the fire department of the civil defense, so that they don't know when they set up the fire the choithram group are known to pull off dirty tricks their supermarket, A1, on al-Wasl Rd was closed down by the municipality after they found out that all the expired products from the rest of their supermarkets were being sold there - JimmyHarter - 09-19-2005 wow.. a1 i remember that.. where Reem al Bawadi is now? - Nik - 09-19-2005 The owners of Oasis are not the Choithram group, but the Landmark group...both are Indian companies so thats the source of the confusion perhaps...From what I remember about the Lamcy fire, there were all sorts of rumors flying about, including arson by a third party, the mob etc...Lol its strange Brisbane's such a small place, but in the bsaence of free media (especially in those days), rumors become the only source of info and thus the most credible one! Still innocent till proven guilty...
