Are Radar Detectors Legal here - jacky - 09-02-2005 Are Radar Detectors Legal here I always thought they werent but I noticed sites like Australia Mall openly selling them. http://www.australiamall.com/main.asp?AGSH=step&AGGR=srchfld=radar,Category,SubCategory,SubSubCategory&AGHD=Average+Price+AUD&AGOP=avg&SORT=Modified&SRT=SubCategory:Subcategory,Price:Price&LVL=1&cols=1&ROWS=20&NAV=2&BRAN=ODBC&DEPT=COLL&Pg=1&OUF= Most radars here are stationary and relatively easy to spot but those little black portable multinova cameras at night are a bit more difficult. Can anyone give me a definitive answer on the rules about Radar Detectors in Australia? Thanks in advance. - Brisbane - 09-02-2005 In Canada, radars are illegal but places still sell them.... I dunno if its the case in Australia but so what? If they are illegal and you own one, once your radar starts to act up. Shut if off ASAP and make sure its in a discreet location the cops cannot find with the nakked eye jacky, yesterday you speak of going 160kph and now you need a radar detector... How fast do you go? - jacky - 09-02-2005 hahahaha as yorkie said in the other post some roads here are conducive to speed. The scary part is even going 200 at times people still pass you like youre standing still. Ive driven in Montreal, youll feel right at home here. Btw only certain provinces have rules about radar detectors, AB for example theyre allowed. - Brisbane - 09-02-2005 I here you... In Montreal the highways are pretty crappy with all the potholes and heaves and I still tend to drive at 140kph (limit is 100)... I can see myself in Australia driving 200+ (obviously depdning on what I drive).... I have also had minor driving experience in America.... Montreal driving is like heaven compared to America... Its funny though... I got pulled over for driving reverse on the sidewalk in Montreal for about 2 blocks and the cop issues me a warning saying he would "prefer" I stay on the road... Helped that the cop was Egyptian As for the radar, yeah my bad... In AB you can and in Yukon too (though why the hell would someone wanna go there is beyond me)... In Quebec you can't. - yurki500 - 09-02-2005 From my understanding, radar detectors like V1 and such are NOT allowed. - Brisbane - 09-02-2005 Yeah great since the Valentine is the best one.... :x They are illegal !! - Palkid7 - 11-06-2005 Hi, My friend ordered an escort detector about a year ago from yahoo.com and he did receive it !! yet when we ordered another two more of a couple of friends, customs held them b/c they said they are illegal to enter the country ! one more thing is that if u bring it with u, and they scan ur bags in the airport they will take it from u , b/c detectors include microwave circuits that are clearly detectable using scanners ! so bottom line, u can bring ur detector with u , but it is a 50/50 chance ! online ! u will loose the money !! About the police, they don't know what is it for, once a policeman saw it in my car and asked me what is it, I said nothing its is a speed tracker and he believed me !! Cheers - yurki500 - 11-06-2005 I know for buying Valentine's radar dectector, you have to be registered in the USA only. They do not export them. I had to get a friend of mine to buy me one in the states, have it delivered to him and he then forwarded it on to me. Brisbane, I know where you are comingfrom, but I think that the Bell is slightly better. - A64Venice - 11-08-2005 dude you can get those off ebay.... - BFG-9000 - 11-08-2005 I carried my radar detector here when I moved from Australia. Works fine and never had any dramas, normally set it to "volt meter" mode so the display shows the power level and if any one asks, "it's just a battery analyser" |
