Australians are power junkies. Our houses are getting bigger, and jam-packed with power appliances of every kind.

But as Australia moves to a low-carbon economy and away from coal-burning power stations, how is all the power going to be produced? Wind? Solar? Nuclear? Geothermal?

Nine power experts will take a light-hearted look at the issue of power and energy, in a hypothetical-style performance in Brisbane on Tuesday 17 May.

Powerplay: tune in, switch on, brown out will be a highlight at the Cooperative Research Centre Association (CRCA) Conference at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

Hosted by ABC personality Bernie Hobbs, the scene is set for the future. Average household power bills have soared to $8,000 and the new Government is faced with a headache: how to solve the power supply question.

An election is just round the corner. And then Cyclone Kylie strikes…..

Powerplay tumbles history and events together in a cascade of fact and fun.

The nine panellists may all be experts in power, sources of energy and politics, but they’ll need their wits about them to negotiate the fast-moving scenerio put to them by Bernie.

Powerplay: tune in, switch on and brown out is open to the public and tickets are on sale now.
