I read again of the billions of dollars ripped of by us when we record movies off TV, etc.
Long ago, the death of the music industry was forecast because of the cassette tape recorder.
Yet:
Six teenagers go to town with $35 each. (Total 6 x 35 = 210)
They each buy a $30 CD and a few blank cassettes.
Back at Fred's (he's got the best player/recorder setuo), they pick songs from the CDs to make individual tapes. (Sorry, reminded they rip them onto their MP3 gear nowadays.) So each of them can play favourite songs from all 6 CDs.
To the record company, this means they should have been able to sell 6 CDs to each teenager. Therefore, 36 CDs at $30 each = $1080; they only sold 6, for $180. Therefore, they LOST $900.
But -- there was only $210 in the pool altogether.
Where was the missing $900 to come from?
