Full Version: Google Toolbar -- an annoying "flap"

I installed Google toolbar recently (February 2008, as I see posts here are not dated as on other forums).
Every time I open Internet explorer, a "Flap" comes down top left corner, thanking me for installing it. I have to cclose the flap before anything else works. This proves so annoying I'm thinling og uninstalling the toolbar.
Anyone know how to get rid of the flap?
Did you try using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer?
I recently tried myself the google bar and i loved it.
I tried hard with Firefox.
But there must be a defect in my system, because it needs a plug-in to run Java.
A jigsaw piece appears and says "Install plug-in?" so I click it. After a while it says "Plug-in installed" or some such. Back to the site:
"You need a plug-in. Install?" "yes"; "Installed"; "you need a plug-in",
So after a month of visiting Sun's website, and half my (then) download limit, I gave upand returned to IE.

Same problem on the other machine, running Ubuntu 7.10

Maybe my AVG thinks Java's a virus and blocks it, maybe Windows Firewall hates it, but all other updates and on-line installs have gone well.

As a student I was asked "What is the commonest cause of failure in carrying out this procedure?"
I answered with a list of possibilities"
"No! Incompetence, Fisher, incompetence!"
BTW, I later became the "top gun" at that procedure.
