New Vista box can't see old network - jfish1936 - 04-27-2008 I set up a Belkin wireless router connecting an XP box and a Win98 box, both wired, and a laptop wireless, to my ADSL router. All worked well, and files flew amongst the various folders; all 3 boxes connected to the Internet. I'm now sitting at a lovely new Win Vista 64 machine with a huge LCD screen, and Intel core 2 quad, 4G of RAM; my movie editors really work as they should (didn't on a celeron 2G, with 512 MB RAM). It connects to the Internet (you knew that, or I wouldn't be typing this!), but it claims to be on a private network with no other computers on it. I had expected it to see the XP box and the laptop, neither of which can see the Vista. When I access the network configuration in Vista, I can't seem to change any parameters. An attempt to access the router and set values there cost me my connection; fortunately, it came back after powering down the whole set of computers, router, modem and all. THe only other snag is that I've lost my scanner's CD, and can't succeed in downloading a driver from Canon for my LIde 35. A package downloads, unpacks, and installs CanonScan toolkit, but the scanner still ain't got no driver! |
